Light Dawns on Marblehead--Well, Lowell anyway.

[The title here is actually taken from a timeless Massachusetts euphemism for, "Finally, the retard gets it!" FYI, when my mom uses it, the phrase is usually followed by a "hallelujah!" and hands are raised towards the heavens. To be clear, however, my mom does not mock retards--except Ted Kennedy. Oh wait, he's officially brain damaged now. Good for you, Ted! Hi Five! ; ) ]

UMass trustees strip Mugabe of honorary degree after lobbying by students, Rep. Kevin Murphy

"The UMass board of trustees, acting on the recommendation of UMass President Jack Wilson and after lobbying from UMass students and Lowell state Rep. Kevin Murphy, yesterday voted unanimously to take that "extraordinary" step in light of mounting international criticism of Mugabe's human-rights record and allegations that his regime has been responsible for massive voter intimidation, fraud and violence associated with presidential elections in his country.

"We don't do this lightly," Wilson said prior to the vote. "We've never done this before. We don't view honorary degrees as something that can be given and then taken back. It would be only in the most egregious of cases that one would consider doing that."

I am blown away! I mean Barnard still has the Alger Hiss Chair of history and CAIR sponsored Muslim Students Unions are actually encouraged to spew their....spew... at colleges and universities all over the country--all in the name of "diversity." Lowell has taken a step in the right direction (albeit grudgingly), but how many more bazillions of people have to die before american students can focus on anything besides deriding israel or screaming for amnesty for illegals? Apparently quite a few. I don't remember too much when thousands were killed in muslim-on-muslim genocide in Rwanda; Still don't hear anyone screaming at the UN to actually do something besides chit-chat about Sudan (tho, many still bitch an moan about the US not doing enough--wait, don't we pay for the UN?). What about the killing and and "mistreatment" of Iranian Jews, Egyptian Copts and Lebanese Druze and Christians?

That's why I'm suprised Mugabe hasn't been nominated for a nobel peace prize---like say, Yassir Arafat. Wait a sec...wasn't it another nobel prize winner---Jimmy "f-k-the-Jews" Carter, who pushed for Mugabe in 1979? I believe he said something like--and this is a paraphrase--Mugabe is a gentle man who wouldn't hurt a fly. or shoot anybody. Apparently, he's still ok with hiring coolies with machine guns to do the swatting. Or maybe he was too busy bungling the iran hostage crisis--or dry cleaning the turban for his pal, the Ayatollah Cockamamie.

Anyway, Thanks, U-Lowell! (really)

Final thought: You think Carter's affection for mugabe might stem from Murder Man's subtle resemblance to the lovable, affable (and decidedly non-murderous) Robert Guillaume--TV's "Benson?" Think about it: Guillaume is Black AND was all over TV in the 70s. And, since everyone agrees that all black men look alike, Carter's mistake is entirely understandable.

Also, am my the only one who misses "Soap?" --As opposed to "soap," which, along with indoor plumbing, most of carter's terrorist pals seem to be missing. F-ing thug-hugger! [i got that somewhere-not mine, but good, right?]

Heyyyy... isn't "Gillaume" a french Name?
